Privacy notice

This site sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising, and has no forms or user accounts. You can read every page without giving us any personal data. This notice explains the few ways in which data about your visit is still processed.

Who is responsible

The controller under Article 4(7) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Berlin Experiences DMC UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Gotlandstraße 10a, 10439 Berlin, Germany, represented by its managing director, Matthew Robinson. Email: info@berlinexperiences.com. Further details are in the imprint.

Hosting and server log files

The site is hosted by Hostinger. When you open a page, your browser sends the server technical information that it needs to deliver the page, and the server records it in log files: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page, the amount of data sent, the status of the request, and your browser's user-agent string. We use this information only to deliver the site, to keep it secure and stable, and to see in aggregate which pages are read and which search engines read them. We do not combine it with other data or use it to identify visitors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Hostinger processes this data on our behalf; see Hostinger's privacy policy. Log files are kept only as long as these purposes require.

Maps

The maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap data that this site hosts itself, together with the fonts and symbols they need, and the course of the Wall is served from this site too. Your browser therefore contacts no other server to show a map; the requests appear only in this site's own server logs (see above).

Email

If you write to us, for example to report an error, we use your email address and what you write only to answer you and to correct the site, and we delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed for that. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries and keeping the site accurate (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Corrections that result from a message are listed on the corrections page without naming the person who reported them.

Fonts, images and links

Fonts, images and maps are served from this site, not loaded from third parties. Links to other websites (for example Chronik der Mauer, Wikimedia Commons or Wikipedia) send data to those sites only when you click them; their own privacy policies then apply.

Your rights

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, and to have it corrected, erased or restricted, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Articles 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to info@berlinexperiences.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; the authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (datenschutz-berlin.de).

The people remembered on this site

The profiles describe people who died between 1961 and 1989, drawing on published research, court records and other published sources. Companions, relatives and others appear only as they are named in those sources; guards and officials are described by their role, not by name. If you are a relative or are mentioned on the site and want something checked or changed, please write to us.
